Not getting notifications when you should be? Here are a few things you can try to get your Kik notifications working again:
For Android
NOTE: The exact steps as well as names of settings for these troubleshooting tips will vary depending on your device model.
General
- Force close the app and re-open it (swipe it from your Recents list)
- Force stop the app and re-open it (through your Settings > Apps > Kik)
- Restart your device
- Update your Kik app
- Update the software (OS) on your device
Notification Settings
NOTE: If you're using a device on Android Oreo (8.x) or greater, you may need to update your system settings to receive notifications properly. For Android Nougat (7.x) and lower, you can change all of your notifications for Kik right in the app! Check out this article for more information.
- Toggle off and on your Kik notification settings
- From your main chat list tap Settings > Notifications
- Toggle off and on your OS notification settings for Kik
- Check to see if any advanced notification settings may be affecting notifications for Kik (like Do Not Disturb mode)
Connectivity
- Check if Airplane Mode is enabled, and disable it in your OS settings
- Switch to another Wi-Fi connection and try receiving notifications
- Switch to using your data plan if a Wi-Fi connection isn’t working
If you're not receiving notifications while on a data connection, it may be due to a feature called Data Saver. In your Settings, go to Connections > Data usage > Data saver to see if it's enabled. If it's on and Kik isn't whitelisted, you may not receive notifications until you open the app again. To whitelist Kik, from the Data saver screen tap Allow app while Data saver on and toggle Kik to be whitelisted.
In your Android settings for the Kik application, you can also enable Allow background data usage, however this may increase your data use while Kik is running in the background.
Battery Settings
The Battery Optimization setting may also have an affect on your notifications as it slows down app activity when Kik is running in the background. You can navigate to this setting by going to your Settings (or Device Maintenance) > Battery > Battery optimization (or App power saving).
To exclude Kik from Battery Optimization, from the Battery Optimization screen, tap Not optimized and select All apps, then find Kik and choose Don't optimize. On some devices, you can add Kik to the Unmonitored Apps list.
Also, check to see if Kik is set to be an Always sleeping app and remove it from that list.
