Public groups are a great way to make meaningful connections and meet new people on Kik! However, we understand that you may not want to receive direct messages from all the people you meet in public groups. The direct message control setting allows you to opt out of receiving direct messages from other group members.
When you join a public group, you will see this screen:
The setting can be turned ON or OFF at any time after your initial decision. To update your preferences:
- Open the group chat
- Tap the Group Name at the top of the chat
- Toggle ON or OFF “Receive Direct Messages”
If you disable your “Receive Direct Messages” setting for a public group, other group members will not be able to send you private messages.
Disabling “Receive Direct Messages” will not affect your ability to participate in group chats. Instead, it gives you more control over who is able to directly contact you!
