Kik Community Standards

Kik is about making fun, safe, and genuine connections with people from all over the world. With that mission comes a responsibility to keep every Kik user safe and happy. We created a set of universal community guidelines that apply to all content and activity on Kik.

Our goal with these rules is to let people chat, build community, and be themselves while ensuring everybody can safely enjoy connecting on Kik.

Violent and Criminal Behavior

Child Abuse and Nudity. We have zero tolerance for any content encouraging, promoting, or featuring the exploitation of children. This includes soliciting child sexual abuse material, sharing images of child abuse, and any content depicting child nudity. Content, including but not limited to text, photos, illustrations, videos, and animated imagery that sexualizes or exploits minors, will not be tolerated. Sharing or possessing this content is a serious crime, and we will report such instances to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

For the purposes of this policy, a minor is any person under the age of 18.

Sexual Exploitation. Don’t engage in or promote activities that depict, threaten, or enable sexual violence or exploitation. This includes the dissemination of images depicting illegal or non-consensual sex acts, as well as the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. Any form of extortion that seeks sexual favors, payments, or other forms of non-consensual coercion through threats to make intimate content available to others (commonly known as sextortion) is also strictly forbidden.

Dangerous and Criminal Organizations. Any content that promotes or glorifies acts of terrorism, supports or celebrates terrorist organizations, their leader,  mass violence, or harm to individuals or communities is strictly forbidden. Examples of prohibited groups include extremist groups, criminal organizations, and violent or legally banned hate groups.

Violent Content and Threats. Don’t post content involving threats, planning, or incitement of physical harm, violence, or murder. Kik prioritizes user well-being and does not tolerate content that encourages self-harm, suicide, or any dangerous behavior. Engaging in activities such as blackmail or coercion, which can cause harm or distress to individuals, is also strictly prohibited.

Human Exploitation. Don’t use Kik to engage in or promote sex trafficking, human trafficking, or any form of illegal prostitution. If you see this activity on Kik, report it promptly. Where you’re able to do so, encourage victims to seek help from law enforcement or contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.

Regulated Goods and Services

Regulated Goods. Don’t post content related to the sale or trade of generally regulated goods. This includes weapons, which are prohibited for sale or trade, as well as the sale or exchange of prescription drugs, recreational drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Likewise, don't use Kik to buy, sell, trade, or share instructions for manufacturing regulated goods or items designed to hurt others.

Regulated Services. You are welcome to offer prizes as long as people don’t have to pay to enter to win. It is prohibited to offer raffles, sweepstakes, games of chance or merit, or the opportunity to gamble if you require users to pay to potentially win a prize. Payment here is defined as the exchange of any form of currency for the opportunity to enter.

Commercial Sexual Activity. Don't post content that includes but is not limited to depicting, soliciting, or offering sex acts or adult nudity in exchange for money. Users are not allowed to engage in or promote advertisements for sex work, which involve offering or seeking sexual services in exchange for compensation. Additionally, selling access to nude images or engaging in camming activities for financial gain is strictly prohibited.

Offensive & Objectionable Content

Hateful Content. Don’t post content encouraging, promoting, or condoning hatred or violence toward individuals or groups based on race, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex (including gender presentation and/or identity and sexual orientation), or disability. Additionally, content that involves Holocaust denial, glorification of the suffering of a specific group, expressions of supremacism, alt-right ideologies, or similar beliefs is also not allowed.

Graphic and Violent Content. Don’t post real gore or graphic violence to shock, upset, or offend other users. Don’t post anything that depicts the mutilation, torture, or intentionally violent harm of humans or animals. Content that encourages or glorifies any of the above is also not allowed on Kik. Do not use any graphic or violent media, whether artistic, fictional, or real, to intentionally harass other users or derail unrelated community conversations.

Sexual Content. Don’t post content that depicts sexually explicit acts or pornography. This encompasses a wide range of media, including but not limited to text, images, and videos featuring both real and illustrated/animated/computer-generated content. If you are under 18, do not engage in sexual conduct or any other consensual sexual interaction on Kik. Artistic, scientific, or educational nude images are allowed if it is not intended to arouse. However, overly explicit or pornographic content, as well as implicit or simulated sexual content, is not allowed.

User Safety

Suicide and Self Harm. Do not promote or glorify self-harm — including cutting, eating disorders, and suicide. We encourage discussions that raise awareness, provide support, and promote recovery for those struggling with self-harm. While dialogue about these topics is important, we will remove any posts that cross the line into promoting or glorifying self-harm. Let us know if you see someone on Kik discussing harming themselves or others. If you are going through something yourself, know you are not alone and that there are resources out there to support you. Some of these include:

Harassment and Bullying. Don’t post content intentionally that attacks or promotes harm toward any group or individual. Actions such as doxxing (sharing or threatening to share another person’s personal information without permission), encouraging self-harm or suicide, threats of blackmail, private information leaks, or dogpiling, where a group is organized to target a user with coordinated abuse, are strictly prohibited.

Scaled Abuse

Spam and Malware. Don’t spam other users. Spam includes inauthentic or unauthorized advertising and mass unsolicited messages. Don’t use or share malicious code or phishing links designed to collect information or data regarding other users.

Exploits. Don't engage in unauthorized use, disruption, or exploitation of Kik or Kik servers. Third-party bots are prohibited on the platform. It is important to respect the functionality and integrity of our platform to ensure a smooth and reliable experience for all users.

Deceptive & Fraudulent Behavior

Fraud. Don’t post content to support fraudulent activities that aim to deceive for financial gain. Users are strictly prohibited from engaging in activities such as loan scams, pyramid schemes, and the solicitation of fake charities.

Impersonation. Don’t pretend to be another individual, celebrity, public figure, group, business, or any other entity with the intent to deceive or mislead others. Don’t use misleading usernames or hacked accounts.

Cybersecurity. Don’t attempt to compromise accounts or gain unauthorized access to sensitive information. Deceptive practices such as phishing, where login credentials are acquired through trickery or deceit, are strictly prohibited. Furthermore, requesting login details from other users or sharing login details without express permission is not allowed.

Intellectual Property. Kik respects the intellectual property of others and responds to takedown requests pursuant to the DMCA's requirements.

It's important to respect the rights of content creators. If you post something on Kik, whether it's text, images, videos, or any other media, you should either be the rightful owner of that content or have obtained proper permission from the copyright or trademark holder to use and share it.
